Introduction
If you want to be able to generate canvas letters for candidates from a Civil Service list uploaded to SchoolFront, you must first design the letter template (i.e. the contents of the canvas letter, formatting, mail-merge fields, etc.). Templates can be used over and over, can be edited, and can be copied into new templates and "tweaked" to make additional templates as necessary to meet your organization's canvasing needs.

Create a Notification Category for Civil Service Canvas Letters
- Navigate to Notifications > Categories
- Click +New Notification Category.
- Enter a Name for the Category (e.g. "Civil Service").
- Enter a Description for when the Category should be used.
- Select Civil Service Eligible Applicant from the Notification Type drop-down menu.
- Click the Insert button.
Design a Canvas Letter Mail-merge Template
- Navigate to Notifications > Templates
- Click +New Notification Template.
- Enter a Name for the Template (e.g. "Civil Service Canvas Letter").
- Select the Notification Category you created from the drop-down menu.
- Enter a Description for when the Template should be used.
- Since canvas letters will not be emailed leave the following fields blank/un-checked:
- Default Email Subject
- Default CC
- Send to All Email Addresses
- Also leave the following blank/un-checked so that the outputted canvas letters are formatted for printing and postal mailing:
- No PDF Page Breaks
- PDF Fit to One Page
- Personnel Folder
- Click the Insert button.
- On the Details tab of the template you just inserted, click Notification Builder.
- The Template Builder window will open.
- Design your template in the window provided -- For instructions on using the template builder, click here.
- Click the Save button.
